Metrorail & Bus Directions

If you wish to take the Metro, then the fastest way is probably on the Orange line to New Carrollton where you can pick up The Bus Route 15 Express. If you are already on the Green line, then you can also take that to the Greenbelt station. But it's a bit longer getting from downtown Washington to Greenbelt than to New Carrollton. Before you leave the Metro station, make sure you get a bus transfer pass.

From New Carrollton
Once you arrive at New Carrollton station, you need to find the the bus stop. Go under the Amtrak line and up the west stairs or escalator. At the top to your left is the bus shelter used by both the Metrobus T16/17 and The Bus 15 Express buses. The Express is very important. This is NOT a Metrorail Bus. Departure times for the Route 15 Express are limited to once an hour starting at 6:30 a.m., so plan ahead. Likewise, return trips are limited to once an hour and start at 4:06 p.m. The bus stop is just outside the Main Gate on Greenbelt road.

From Greenbelt
Once you arrive at the Greenbelt Metro station, look for The Bus Route 15 Express. This is NOT a Metrorail bus! Moreover, it is NOT the regular Route 15 bus! If you get on the regular Route 15 bus, it will be over 35 minutes before you get to Goddard rather than 15 minutes. Departure times for the Route 15 Express are limited to once an hour starting at 6:00 a.m., so plan ahead. Likewise, return trips start at 3:33 p.m. The bus stop is just outside the Main Gate on Greenbelt road.

Both New Carrollton & Greenbelt if you miss the Route 15 Express
If you find you've missed the Express bus, then the next option is to take the Metrobus Greenbelt Line, either T16 or T17 (the T16 loses some stops during the midday, but both always stop at the Goddard Main Gate). This bus ride is about a half hour or more, but it will still be at least a few minutes faster than waiting for the next Express bus.

Once at Goddard, go to the Main Gate to pick up your security pass. It is a short walk to Building 1 from the gate.
